As we discussed in an earlier blog post, big data firms have made it their business to commercialize our personal data. This is neither surprising nor revelatory, as user data is the primary asset of these firms. That being said, the recent exposure of the Cambridge Analytica’s use of Facebook data has begun to have an affect on major tech firms.
which discusses how big tech firms have begun to publicly distance themselves from big data. Despite the best intentions of the tech firms’ management, the commercial power of big data still provide large financial incentives to use this data. This leaves the tech firms in a quandary – whether to use the big data to run their businesses as efficiently as possible, or to protect the privacy of their consumers.
Homomorphic encryption provides an approach that would allow tech firms to do both. Homomorphic encryption allows big tech firms to provide private computation as a service. This would allow tech firms to develop and share insights from customers’ data to optimize their customers’ experiences, without actually exposing customers’ data. This is a win-win for all involved, and is potentially transformative in its potential.
We at Duality are proud to offer the latest and most advanced encrypted computing technologies, such as homomorphic encryption. Our encrypted computing technologies are the benefactor of nearly a decade of investment and fostering from DARPA and other research sponsors to foster encrypted computing technologies which we are now commercializing and offering in products.
